It's a Reunion - Hurricane Harvey Updates

Between Hurricane Harvey flooding out SE Texas and then Hurricane Irma destroying The Keys it's been a whirlwind month to say the least. First off, I wanted to say thank you for all friends and family that sent us donations. I have a lot of stories to share, but here is one of the good ones...

You might remember my live feed Facebook post when Esa and I responded to a transport call for about 100 -200 dogs in Beaumont at Hi Tower Kennels. When we arrived they were bringing out dogs from the kennels (a flooded area) and we drove six them to Katy where we arrived at 3am and worked tirelessly until 5 am to get them through the intake. We slept a couple hours at my cousins house in Katy, Trey and Amy Chandler, and were back at Katy to get the dogs out for transport. It took a while....but we finally were able to get them to Austin thanks to Esa, Sampson, and another volunteer whom I didn't get a name from.

As it turned out the Hi Tower kennel made a mistake and one of those dogs, Russell, was actually boarding at their facility while his family evacuated. After a few days of trying to track down the owner from his microchip, we were able to connect to them. Also, I have to give a shout out to Melissa for helping me track down the owner.

The mom of Russell said her home flooded and it would be 60 days before they could return. Between myself and my friend, Sampson's family, we were able to keep him in a safe place for a couple of weeks and what a cuddle bug he is!

I'm happy to report that my friend Russ (the right photo) was able to transport Russell (fitting names by way) back to his family near Beaumont last Tuesday with supplies and Russell in tow!

Russell is a very lucky dog with a loving Mom and Son team and I hope to keep in contact with them.
