A Collar Can Save a Life

I just checked out our Amazon wishlist and I'm so happy to see some more orders for items we didn't have yet! Yay animal lovers! Every single gift will directly impact an animal and family. Be sure and write a note in the gift section. I'll be posting as we receive items.

We have 20 days before we depart....time is flying by!

But back to why I'm blogging...When Audrey from the Spanky Project told me collars were on their wishlist, I didn't understand the importance of those items until now. I didn't realize how scarce these are in Cuba, yet how they could also save a dog's life. They're like impossible to find down there and people barely have enough to get by on their own. So when a person is sent home with a collar and (bonus) a leash after taking them to the clinic, it makes a world of difference in their life, and their dog's life. Audrey says she, "We love it when we can send an animal home with a collar. You wouldn't believe how grateful the owners are. It's very much a luxury in Cuba."

Cuba's animal control is called the "zooist" and their methods of rounding up "strays" is something I don't think any animal lover wants to hear. Let me just say their methods of euthanasia include poisoning. If a dog is without a collar or a government issued ID they can be tossed in the "zooist's" truck and off to the dungeon.

If a person wants to bring their dog, let's say to this "clinic" to be spayed, they don't even have a leash to bring them on. It's a follow me or I'll carry you method. Audrey said she's seen people make leashes out of twine and crates out of laundry baskets! We take these things for granted in the US, but they really do change the lives of both the animals and their owners.

Here is how you can help make a difference:
